Iranian deputy FM urges immediate truce for Syria

Tehran, Oct 19, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian emphasized that immediate ceasefire in Syria would be an important step for bringing back peace to Syria.

'We regard an instant truce (ceasefire) in Syria an important as a significant step in helping to (bring back) tranquility for the Syrian people,' Amir-Abdollahian said in a seminar of Iranian University Student Formations in Tehran on Friday.

Pointing to the efforts and initiatives of Tehran in supporting Syria within the resistance axis, the deputy minister said “the main issue in Syria is related to foreign interferences in that country, supports for irresponsible armed groups and the efforts made by US-Zionist regime axis in suppressing people and the government of Syria with the aim of weakening and destroying the axis of resistance (formed by Iran and Syria).”

“Syria has taken important steps in confronting terrorism, carrying out and pursuing political reforms, confronting foreign interference, and protecting the country’s security,” he added.

Amir-Abdollahian pointed out that despite the efforts and intensive plots by the US, West, Tel Aviv and some groups against the recent revolutions (in the Middle East and North Africa) and also against Syria, the people of this country (Syria) have taken successful steps even though the hopeless efforts for breaking down Syria is still continuing.
