“The token uses smart card technology,” explained Omid Qaytani, the managing director of the company, adding that smart-card-based USB tokens, which contain a smart card chip, provide the functionality of both USB tokens and smart cards.
They enable a broad range of security solutions and provide the abilities and security of a traditional smart card without requiring a unique input device.
A security token is a small hardware device that the owner carries to authorize access to a network service. The device may be in the form of a smart card.
Security tokens provide an extra level of assurance through a method known as two-factor authentication: a personal identification number authorizes the user as the owner of that particular device.
The device then displays a number that uniquely identifies the user to the service and allows log in. The identification number for each user is changed frequently.
