Thomas Khalil who is currently in Isfahan to visit historical monuments in the picturesque city, told IRNA, "In a letter to UNESCO, I criticized the move and explained that chogan was first invented by the Iranians."
It is regrettable to see the registration of Chogan in the name Azerbaijan Republic while Iran is the cradle of Chogan as its people has been playing the game since millennia ago, he said.
Khalil said that the case for global registration of Chogan should reopen to register the game for Iran which is the real inventor of the game.
Expressing pleasure with his visit to Naqsh-e Jahan Square in Isfahan, he said, "I came to understand the originality of the game in Iran more than ever by visiting the historical monument."

Isfahan, June 11, IRNA – Head of International Chogan Federation Richard Thomas Khalil on Wednesday expressed regret over UNESCO's registration of Chogan in the name of Azerbaijan Republic, saying that the UN body has committed a big mistake in this regard.
