Hamas, Israel agree to Gaza ceasefire agreement

Hamas and Israel agree to an agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza ravaged by more than 15 months of war by the regime.

Tehran, IRNA -- Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas says it has delivered its response to mediators to an agreement proposal on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

The movement said in a statement on Wednesday that its political bureau held an emergency meeting to discuss the proposal submitted by the mediators.

“The movement dealt with all responsibility and positivity, based on its responsibility towards our patient and steadfast people in the honorable Gaza Strip, by stopping the Zionist aggression against them, and putting an end to the massacres and war of genocide to which they are being subjected,” said the statement.

Negotiations to reach an agreement have been taking place with the mediation of the US, Qatar and Egypt.

Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, whose country hosted the ceasefire negotiations, has also announced an agreement between Israel and Hamas. He said the deal would go into effect on Sunday.

According to Reuters news agency, citing an official familiar with the talks, the proposed agreement would take place over three stages.

In the first phase, set to last six weeks, Israeli forces would gradually withdraw from central Gaza, and Palestinians would return to their homes in the north of the strip.

Also during the first phase, Hamas would release 33 Israeli prisoners including all female soldiers and civilians. In return, the regime would release 30 and 50 Palestinian prisoners respectively for every Israeli civilian and every soldier.

A ceasefire deal puts an end to more than 15 months of Israeli genocide in Gaza where at least 46,707 Palestinians have been killed and 110,265 others wounded.
