--  2.5b barrels added to Iran’s crude oil, natural gas reserves in 2023: NIOC

The chief executive of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) said about 2.5 billion barrels were added to the country’s natural gas and crude oil reserves in 2023. Mohsen Khojastehmehr stated that new oil fields were also discovered by the company in 2023.
The deputy oil minister said his company took effective steps in the current Iranian calendar year (began on March 21, 2023) in the oil and gas sectors.

--  Tehran, Ankara to launch joint free trade zone: Official

The chief executive of the Maku Free Zone Organization said Iran and Turkey are mulling the launch of a joint free trade-industrial zone. Speaking in an interview with IRNA, Hossein Garousi said the feasibility studies for launching the joint free trade-industrial zone are ongoing between the two countries.
Referring to the construction of a new railway between the two countries, he said the completion of the construction operation of the railway would spur bilateral trade and economic activities.

--  Shahnameh Reading Festival to be held at Persepolis

The head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Department in Fars Province announced the organization of a Shahnameh Reading Festival along with a light and sound program at the UNESCO-registered Persepolis in southern Fars Province.
Mohammad Sabet-Eghlidi mentioned that the festival will take place on March 15, marking the completion date of the Shahnameh’s composition. Therefore, the festival will be held at the Persepolis World Heritage Site, featuring ‘Shahnameh’ recitations, performances, and scholarly speeches.

-- Pharmacist Gives Islamic Calligraphy Contemporary Twist

A UAE resident is skillfully giving the timeless art of Islamic calligraphy a contemporary twist this Ramadan. Sundus Muhammad Shoaib, 36, a pharmacist from Pakistan, annually embarks on a spiritual journey by writing Islamic calligraphy during the holy month.
The artistic form of handwriting, which dates back more than 1,400 years, uses Arabic text in several different styles to illustrate Qur’anic verses.

--  Iranian Professor Included in Distinguished Referees List

Europhysics Letters (EPL) has included the name of Iranian assistant professor Saheb Soroushfar in its distinguished referees list for 2023, as announced by an official.
Bahador Karami, the chancellor of Yasouj University in southwestern Iran, made this announcement on Tuesday. He also mentioned that individuals selected by the European Physical Society (EPS) will receive a certificate of merit and a three-year free membership in the Society.

--  Iran Urges Israel’s Expulsion From UN Body on Women Rights

Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Ensiyeh Khazali has called upon the United Nations to remove Israel from the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) over the occupying regime’s decades-old atrocities against Palestinian women and violations of their rights.
In her address to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York on Monday, Khazali said Palestinian women are struggling for survival amid an ongoing and well-documented genocide in Gaza, noting that more than 22,000 women and children have lost their lives as a result, while nearly 3,000 others have become widowed.

Excitement is running high among fans of Tehran's two football giants before Wednesday's derby between Persepolis and Esteghlal whose long-running rivalry has ignited passions in sports and politics for decades.

The Azadi stadium, which is home to both teams, is one of the largest in the world, and will see its seats packed for the 103rd Tehran Derby.

--  Tehran, Dodoma finalize draft of double taxation avoidance agreement

 Iranian and Tanzanian tax officials have signed the draft of an agreement to eliminate double taxation on income taxes and prevent tax evasion with the presence of the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tanzania, IRNA reported on Tuesday.

As reported, the draft was signed by Hossein Abdollahi, director general of the Legal Office and Tax Contracts of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and William M. Moja, the acting commissioner of the policy analysis department of the Ministry of Finance of Tanzania.

--  Two million expected to visit Imam Reza shrine on New Year's Eve

The holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) is anticipated to host over two million pilgrims on New Year's Eve, which falls on March 20, the supreme director of the holy shrine has said. “Based on our estimates, some 2.3 million people will be visiting the holy shrine to celebrate the arrival of the new Iranian year,” Reza Khorrakian said on Monday.

“Among various programs, we are intended to have a [a live] communication with Gaza and synchronize Quran recitations to support the children there, showing solidarity with the people of the Islamic world and the dear people of Palestine.”
