According to the Los Angeles Times, the visit of Gantz, a moderate political rival of Netanyahu comes amid differences between the US president and the Israeli prime minister over the ways to minimize the suffering of the Palestinians and the regime’s post-war Gaza plan.
An official from Netanyahu's far-right Likud Party was quoted as saying that Gantz's visit was without the approval of the Prime Minister.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Netanyahu had a "serious conversation" with Gantz and told him that Israel has "only one prime minister."
Gantz is scheduled to meet with US Vice President Kamala Harris and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Monday to discuss relations with the United States, the Gaza war and Israeli captives held by Palestinian resistance fighters.
Recently, Israeli media also reported the widening crack in the regime’s war cabinet as some members are not happy with Netanyahu.
Gantz, whose party is still ahead of Netanyahu’s Likud in opinion poll also rejected Netanyahu's claim that they are allies.
A survey showing an uptick in Gantz’s approval rating was conducted in a situation where the differences in the ruling cabinet and the current members of the war cabinet have reached their peak.
According to some media reports, differences almost turned into a physical fight and reached such a point that Gantz participated in the recent demonstrations against Netanyahu’s far-right cabinet in Tel Aviv.
