Security of Iran, Iraq intertwined: Iraqi official

Tehran, IRNA — Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji says the security of Iran and Iraq are tied together, stressing the need for expanding mutual ties to help restore regional security and stability.

Al-Araji made the remarks on Thursday in a meeting with Iran’s Judiciary Chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejeie who arrived in Iraq at the head of a high-ranking judicial delegation two days earlier upon an invitation by Chairman of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zidane.

The Iraqi government will not allow its territory to be a place to attack neighboring countries or any other country, Al-Araji added.

The security of Iraq and Iran are interconnected, he said, noting that “Baghdad tends to implement [the previously-signed] security agreement between the two countries.”

For his part, Mohseni Ejeie said that the foes and adversaries of Iran and Iraq are calling for the non-implementation of the security agreements between the two states.

The official added that he had handed over the evidence and documents on terrorists and terrorist groups to Iraqi officials.

In light of bilateral cooperation and sympathy that exist between the two countries, Iran hopes that it would sue all the terrorists, he further noted.
