** IRAN DAILY

-- Iran’s two-month exports top $7.5b: IRICA

Iranian non-oil exports reached $7.513 billion in the two months to April 20, said the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), adding that shipments had risen by 12.26% in volume terms over the same period.
Mohammad Rezavanifar said Iran had exported some $592 million worth of liquefied propane and some $538 million worth of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in March-April.

-- Iran to sign contract on Turkmen gas imports soon: Minister

Tehran will sign a contract with Ashgabat to purchase natural gas; according to the contract the daily import of 10 million cubic meters of gas from Turkmenistan will begin this month, said Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji on Tuesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of a meeting with Chairman of the People’s Council of the National Assembly of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Owji said that with the beginning of the current administration, the gas swap volume has been doubled.

--  Iran eyes closer ties with Turkey as Erdogan re-elected
Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi expressed hope that Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s re-election as Turkey’s president would lead to further expansion of relations between Tehran and Ankara in different economic, political, security, cultural, and trade areas.
In a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart on Tuesday, President Raeisi once again congratulated President Erdogan on his re-election to the post.

--  Two Iranian Researchers Pass Away

Dr. Abdol-Ali Ghavam, a distinguished Iranian translator, researcher and professor of international relations, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 78. During his four decades of scientific activity, Ghavam wrote many books in the field of political science and played an unmatched role in enriching studies of international relations in Iran.

Meanwhile, Bagher Parham, an Iranian translator and researcher of philosophy, has passed away ‎in Sacremento, California at the age of 87. ‎The news of his death was announced by his son Ramin who is also a researcher.

-- Malaysia Islamic Museum to Showcase Orientalist Art

More than 100 paintings of Orientalist art are set to go on display at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) in Kuala Lumpur this week, the largest-ever exhibition – outside Europe and the United States – of paintings and artifacts that capture the essence of the Orient in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Highlights of IAMM’s Orientalist Paintings: Mirror Or Mirage? exhibition, which runs from June 3 to Oct 15, include renowned works by some of the most celebrated painters of the era, including Jean-Leon Gerome, Eugene Delacroix, John Frederick Lewis and the remarkable but rarely seen Ottoman polymath Osman Hamdi Bey.

-- Interior Minister: Pakistanis Can  Cross Iran to Go to Iraq for Arbaeen

Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi on Tuesday said Iraq has agreed to allow entry to Pakistani pilgrims who will cross through Iran to travel to Karbala for this year’s Arbaeen season.

In comments at a meeting with Iranian diplomats, Vahidi said the Pakistani pilgrims who had entered Iran to travel to Karbala for the Arbaeen mourning rituals last year had been refused entry by Iraq.

-- World Art Museum unveils folio from rare copy of Shahnameh 

 A detached folio from a 682-year-old copy of the Shahnameh, Ferdowsi’s epic masterpiece, was unveiled at the World Art Museum in Tehran on Monday. The manuscript was commissioned by Qavam ad-Din Hasan, a minister to the Injuid governor of Fars, Abu Is’haq, in 741 AH (1341 AD), as stated in its colophon. On its two sides, the 30 X 37-cm folio carries the story and illustration of Nushzad and Rambarzin.

-- Iran’s 2-month non-oil trade stands at nearly $15.5b

Iran’s non-oil trade stood at 25.732 million tons worth $15.454 billion during the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-May 21), the spokesman of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) announced.

Mohammad Rezvani-Far put the country’s 2-month non-oil export at 21 million tons worth $7.513 billion, and that of import at 4.732 million tons valued at $7.941 billion.

-- Ecotourism is a reliable way to reduce poverty in Iran, diplomat says

Ali Nemati, Minister Counsellor of the Iranian Embassy in China said, Ecotourism is a reliable way to reduce poverty in Iran.

Speaking on the second day of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Forum on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development in Yangling, Shaanxi province of China, Nemati described the geographical location of Iran, the weather, and the tourism potential of the country and then said: Iran, in terms of international security indicators and according to the World Travel Risk map, is as safe as countries such as Britain, Sweden, Canada, and Denmark.
