Tehran, IRNA – The following headlines appeared in English-language newspapers in the Iranian capital on Tuesday, May 30, 2023:

** IRAN DAILY

-- Iran, second-biggest date producer in world

Iran is the second biggest producer of dates in the world, announced the chairman of the National Date Association of Iran on Monday.
Export of Iranian dates has the capacity to fetch $1 billion to the country’s per annum, Mohsen Rashid-Farrokhi said.

-- Stone expo kicked off in Tehran

The 13th International Stone Exhibition of Iran kicked off in Tehran on Monday. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by senior officials including Reza Mohtashamipour, deputy Industry, Mine, and Trade minister, and Mostafa Taheri, an Iranian lawmaker.
Over 110 Iranian companies as well as their counterparts from six different countries, namely China, Russia, India, Italy, Turkey, and Greece, are showcasing their latest products and achievements in the five-day exhibition.

-- Malayer, manifestation of Iran’s rich art and architecture

The city of Malayer in western Hamedan Province is a manifestation of Iran’s rich art and architecture, and is known as the city of the Medes. The Medes were ancient Persian people who mostly inhabited an area known as Media between western and northern Iran, and spoke the Median language. Around the 11th century B.C., they occupied the mountainous region of northwestern Iran and the northeastern and eastern region of Mesopotamia, located in Hamedan (Ecbatana).
According to IRNA, 360 historical monuments and works have been identified in Malayer. More than 240 of them have been registered on the country’s National Heritage List. Noushijan Hill is located 15km northwest of Malayer. There are ancient temples and a castle on top of that hill. The historic site is estimated to be nearly 3,000 years old.

-- Iran, Iraq Discuss Boosting Transportation Cooperation

Iran’s deputy transport minister Shahriyar Afandizadeh in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Taleb Abdullah Bayesh has conferred on expanding transport cooperation.
During the meeting held in Baghdad, the two Iranian and Iraqi deputy transport ministers discussed the ways to expand cooperation between the two countries in the transportation sector, as well as facilitate the transportation of pilgrims.

-- IRICA: Iran-Oman Annual Trade Exceeds $1.8bn

The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) has reported that the value of trade exchanges between the Iran and the Sultanate of Oman in the previous Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2022 to March 20, 2023) exceeded $1.887 billion.
In this period, Iran exported $800,479 million worth of non-oil products to Oman, the report the IRICA said in a report. Oil bitumen, iron and steel ingots were exported from Iran to Oman while Iran imported transgenic soybean and palm oil from Oman last year.

-- Iran to Increase Trade Attachés to Other Nations to 30

Chairman of the Trade Attachés and Trade Centers Department at the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI) Muhammad Rajabnejad has said that the TPOI plans to increase the number of its trade attaché to other countries to 30 in the next few months.
Rajabnejad, said that the TPOI has planned to increase the number of its trade attaché to other countries to 30. Iran’s trade attachés will be deployed to the UAE next week. Also, two Trade attachés are about to be sent to Brazil and Uzbekistan, he also said.

-- Iran’s NPC can support Asian countries: Majid Rashed

Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) President Majid Rashed hailed Iran as one of the most developed National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) in the region and said the West Asian country can support the other Asian countries to develop in this field.

During the final day of the 30th Executive Board meeting of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) held in Tehran’s Paralympic Committee headquarters, Rashed, Ghafoor Karegari, head of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC), and Chief Executive Officer of the APC Tarek Souei attended a press conference.

--  Department of Environment sets up SDS intl. conference secretariat

 The Department of Environment has set up a secretariat for the international conference on combating sand and dust storms which is scheduled to be held in Tehran on September 9-10.

In February, DOE chief Ali Salajeqeh said that based on the successful experiences of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of combating sand and dust storms, the United Nations introduced Iran as the host of the international conference on combating sand and dust storms.

-- Iranian universities advance in world’s highly cited institutes

The number of top Iranian universities and research institutes in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database has increased from 112 last year (March 2022-March 2023) to 115 this year, the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) has reported.

Essential Science Indicators, or ESI, is a fundamental analysis and evaluation tool that reveals emerging science trends, as well as the performance of influential individuals, academic institutions, papers, journals, countries, and regions in various fields of scientific research.
