President Raisi made the comment in an interview with Syria TV and the country’s state news agency, SANA. The interview was published on SANA’s website on Friday, a day after Raisi wrapped up his two-day historic visit to Syria, the first by an Iranian president since 2011 when war triggered by foreign-backed terror groups broke out in the Arab country.
“Syria stands against the forces of global evil in order to achieve justice and peace. We in Iran and under the leadership of Imam Khamenei insist on standing by the Syrian people and constantly supporting the axis of resistance,” Raisi was quoted as saying.
Syria is at the forefront of the resistance front, and has strongly stood against the Zionist regime, he further said, adding that Iran has also put on its foreign policy agenda “standing against” the regime and supporting the Palestinian people.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president rejected the US’s claims that its forces are in Syria to help fight the Daesh terror group also called by the name of ISIS.
“I want to rely on the statements of the Americans themselves. One of the candidates for the American elections said: “We are the ones who created ISIS”, a clear American recognition, so how do they claim that they want to fight ISIS? Their contradiction is clear. They created ISIS and the takfiri groups, and they alleged that they want to fight it.”
Raisi went on to say, according to the text of the interview, that “Americans occupied some areas in Syria to loot its resources in an attempt to achieve their goals that they failed to achieve through terrorism, but the resistance of the Syrian people will defeat their plots.”
“Syria has resisted the war and sedition launched by the US and Israel during the past 12 years,” the Iranian president said.
He noted that conditions have now changed as many countries previously engaged in imposing restrictions on Syria have changed their stances, which “means that the resistance has won,” Raisi was quoted.
