Tehran, IRNA – The following headlines appeared in English-language newspapers in the Iranian capital on Saturday, December 24, 2022:

** IRNA DAILY

--- Iran steel production up 8.5% in 11 months despite int’l plunge

 Iran’s steel production reached nearly 28 million tons, showing an 8.5 percent hike, while international steel production witnessed a 3.7 percent decrease in January-November period of the current year.
The World Steel Association (WSA) mentioned the facts and figures in its latest report on steel production at Iranian and global levels as of December 2022.
The steel production in Iran amounted to 25.7 million tons in the 11 months of 2021, which increased to 27.9 million tons in the same period this year.

--- Iran’s trade with Caspian Sea states gains pace

 Iran’s trade (excluding crude oil exports) with the Caspian Sea littoral states reached 4.62 million tons, worth $2.49 billion, during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (starting March 21).
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration, Iran’s trade with the Caspian Sea littoral states registered a 17.47% rise in value, but a 5.2% fall in terms of weight, from March 21 to November 21, compared to the same period last year.
Russia was Iran’s main trading partner among the Caspian states, with 2.63 million tons (up 23.73%), worth $1.48 billion (up 8.36%), during the period under review.

--- Fathabad Garden: A must-see site for Kerman visitors

The city of Kerman, the capital of the southeastern province of Kerman, is home to spectacular scenery and historic sites. Among its top attractions is Fathabad Garden, also known as Bigler Beigi, which is the name of its first owner. The donated heritage site, which fascinates vacationers and wayfarers, is a must-see place for the city’s visitors. The garden is presently under the supervision of Iranian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.
The flourishing garden was an inspiring pattern for the world-known Shahzadeh Mahan Garden. Dating back to the Qajar Era (1789-1925 CE), the garden, along with its gorgeous mansion, has been restored.

-- SCI: Iran’s Economy Grows 3.3%

 Figure by the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) show that the country’s economy expanded by 3.3% in the first half of the calendar year that started in late March compared to the same period last year.
Fgures published on SCI’s website showed that the non-oil sector of the Iranian economy had also expanded by 3.4% year on year in the two quarters to late September.
The SCI had reported a year on year economic growth rate of 5.6% in the same quarter in 2021.

-- Persian Literature Teaching in English Youtubed

 An Iranian academic Bahador Bagheri has started the program of introducing ‎Iranian literature and literary figures in English on YouTube to make the people of the ‎world more familiar with this language.‎
He is a faculty member of Khawarzmi University in Tehran and vice president of the Institute for the Expansion of Persian language and Iranian studies in Universities and Scientific Centers Abroad.
Describing his act, Bagheri writes on his personal website: “Undoubtedly YouTube is one of the most popular mass media in the world, and some of its videos have billions of viewers.”

-- Iran, One of Strongest Democracies in West Asia

The Iranian foreign minister has dismissed as unacceptable any European interference in the country’s domestic affairs, saying Iran has one of the strongest democracies in the West Asia region.
Hussein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a phone conversation with his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares on Thursday, during which the two top diplomats exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
Amir-Abdollahian censured Western governments for the revocation of the Islamic Republic’s membership in the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) earlier in the month, and said the move revealed attempts aimed at destroying the opportunity for dialogue.

-- Export from Iran to China increases 5% in 11 months on year

 According to the data released by China’s customs administration, the value of Iran’s non-oil exports to China reached $6.05 billion in the first 11 months of 2022, registering a five-percent rise year on year.

The Islamic Republic had exported $5.75 billion worth of goods to China in January-November 2021, IRNA reported. Based on the mentioned data, Iran and China traded $14.6 billion worth of commodities in the said 11 months to register an 11-percent increase compared to $13.1 billion in the same period in 2021.

-- 12 trees in Khorasan region made national heritage

 A selection of twelve old trees standing in the Khorasan region has been added to Iran’s national heritage list. 12 old trees that stand in various rural villages of Khorasan Razavi province have been inscribed on the national list of natural heritage, a local tourism official said on Wednesday.

Ancient trees are mainly considered symbols of vitality and antiquity in villages and they have a special place and respect among the people, Mahmoud Toghraei said.

-- Lord Byron’s “Cain” comes to Iranian bookstores

 Persian translation of Lord Byron’s “Cain: A Mystery: There Is No Instinct Like That of the Heart” has been published by Ney. Hossein Qodsi is the translator of the book originally published in 1821.

George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron but more commonly known as just Byron, was a leading English poet in the Romantic Movement along with Keats and Shelley.  Byron was born on January 22, 1788. He traveled extensively across Europe, spending many years in Italy and much time in Greece.
