Fighting against terrorism brings more unity to region: Envoy

Tehran, IRNA – The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Pakistan Mohammad Ali Hosseini said on Thursday that fighting against terrorism will bring more unity to the region.

Hosseini made remarks among Pakistani armed forces students at the Quetta Army staff college in the capital of Baluchistan and emphasized bilateral ties between Iran and Pakistan.

Pointing to the significant growth of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Pakistan in recent years in all political, cultural, military, security, economic and commercial fields, he noted that various committees have been formed between the two states and follow-up strategies for developing ties, including the implementation of agreements in all areas including cross-border trade and security consolidation at the borders.

According to the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the development of relations with non-hostile countries is always on the agenda, and interactions with Islamic countries and neighbors, including Pakistan, are the priority of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he highlighted.

Iran would never allow its territory to be used against other countries and expects the same from officials in neighboring countries, Hosseini said, adding that there are some security threats, the phenomenon of extremism and separatists at the common borders, but the relevant authorities are in constant contact and are conducting key consultations to repel common threats.

Referring to Iran's pivotal role in fighting terrorism in the region, and international terrorism plus explaining the sacrifices of the Resistance Front in Syria and Iraq against ISIS (Daesh) as well as Martyr Lieutenant General Haj Qassem Soleimani's efforts for bringing peace, he underlined that the phenomenon of ISIS is a potential challenge for all countries in the region, so Iran's participation in this front and the presence of combatants from other countries, not only did not cause divisions, but they were also unifying and defending the peace and security of people in other countries in the region.

Calling for strengthening Iran-Pakistan cooperation in the regional and international forums, he stated that identifying challenges and taking joint steps to hinder trade, such as addressing disagreements or finding solutions on financial and banking issues are some critical issues for expanding ties between the two sides that should be considered.

Iran supports joint cooperation with China and Pakistan in the region and welcomes joining the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative and announces its readiness for trilateral cooperation in the energy field, he pointed out.
