Amoui, who serves as the spokesman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Majlis (parliament), said on Thursday that missile attacks by the IRGC on terrorists in Iraqi Kurdistan earlier this week had targeted elements who have been wreaking havoc in Iran in recent weeks amid riots and street protests reported in several cities.
He said Iran had demanded officials in Iraq and in the Kurdistan region they should act to neutralize those terrorist groups following previous rounds of IRGC attacks in the area that started in late September.
“The demands have yet to be met and the Islamic Republic of Iran was forced to renew its response to efforts by the separatist terrorist groups in line with international laws and (its obligation) to defend the country’s national security,” said the legislator.
The IRGC has recently launched several rounds of missile and drone attacks on the hideouts of armed anti-Iran groups in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has cautioned the Iraqi citizens, residing near the hideouts of anti-Iran separatists, to leave the northern Iraq, as the Iranian forces try to cleanse those areas.
