Nabbed Hajj pilgrim in Saudi Arabia returns to Iran

Tehran, IRNA – An Iranian Hajj pilgrim, who spent 80 days in Saudi custody, has come back to Iran and explained the unreal charges, which have ended up in his arrest and interrogation in Saudi Arabia.

Following his return on Monday, Khalil Dardmand met with Supreme Leader's representative in charge of Hajj affairs Abdolfattah Navvab and head of the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization Seyyed Sadegh Hosseini on Wednesday.

The hajj pilgrim pointed the ordeal that he suffered from it during his interrogation, when Saudi police tried to accuse him of unfounded charges.

The Supreme Leader’s representative expressed satisfaction with the Iranian Hajj pilgrim’s return to the country, pointing to efforts and follow-ups made by the Iranian authorities to pave the way for his release from Saudi jail.

Navvab appreciated the pilgrim for standing firm against pressures during the nearly 3 months of imprisonment in Saudi soil.

The Iranian Hajj pilgrim, who was along with his mother to carry out Hajj rituals, was arrested due to taking picture in front of Kaaba while showing a photo of Iranian Lieutenant General Martyr Qassem Soleimani.

Dardmand flied to Tehran via airspace of one of neighboring countries on October 3, where he was warmly welcomed by the Iranian authorities, including officials from the Office of the Supreme Leader, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization.

According to Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, foreign ministers from Iraq and Oman assisted to pave the ground for the Hajj pilgrim’s freedom.
