Iran FM dismisses foreign interference in meeting with Syrian counterpart

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said in a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mikdad dismissed foreign interference in Syrian affairs and destabilizing measure in the region.

During the meeting that took place on the sidelines of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, Amirabdollahian said that Iran-Syria cooperation in recent years on fighting against terrorism and extremism and their leveraging of the Astana Format accelerated Syria's return to peace.

In another part of the meeting, Amirabdollahian briefed the Syrian foreign minister on the latest developments regarding the talks to remove sanctions against Iran.

He said that Iran and the United States communicate via the EU and E3 and that Iran was moving in the diplomatic path by adopting a logical approach and emphasizes a sustainable deal that assures Iran’s economic benefits.

Faisal Mikdad thanked Iran for its important contribution to establishing peace and security in the region and the fight against terrorism.

He said that Damascus emphasizes economic and trade cooperation with Iran to counter the impacts of the West’s illegal and coercive measures against Syria.

Regional developments, including initiatives by Arab states to have Syrian rejoin the Arab League, the situation in Palestine, and international developments, including Ukraine crisis, were also among the issues the two foreign ministers discussed.
