Iran top Islamic state in knowledge-based activities: Academic

Tehran, IRNA - The brilliant position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in a knowledge-based field helps secure the Islamic world's interests in scientific and technological arenas, a scientist opines.

Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of the Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), told IRNA on Tuesday concurrent with a trip by an Iranian delegation of managers of knowledge-based enterprises to Pakistan that the COMSTECH has been proud of holding a new round of awarding special prize of the Committee on Science and Technology of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Iran recently.

Iran is one of the most important and top countries among 57 member states of the OIC, which has a glorious performance in knowledge-based, scientific and technological fields, the scholar noted.

The Islamic Republic stands third in international ranking in terms of nanotechnology, definitely, its share in upgrading science and technology can be of great importance; thus, the COMSTECH cooperate with the country's knowledge enterprises very closely, he added.

The Pakistani scientist, who succeeded in winning Al-Mustafa Award in Tehran for his efforts in developing "Bioorganic Chemistry" last fall, argued that Iran plays a key role in securing interests of the Islamic world.

According to the academic, an important delegation, consisting of top specialists from Iranian knowledge enterprises, travels to different countries namely Pakistan in order to train managers of technological parks in other states.

The Iranian specialists are going to train 70 directors of technological parks in Pakistan during their stay in the country, Choudhary said, noting that the Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation is seeking to transfer professional, financial, legal and managerial skills to Muslim nations in cooperation with Iran.

International statists indicate that the Islamic Republic of Iran stands 61 in science generation in the world and number one in the region.

Agha Hassan Baloch, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, said in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Seyyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini recently that Islamabad is determined to expand cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran in scientific and technological arenas.

The Pakistani minister expressed satisfaction with the eye-catching ties between the two neighboring states in political and economic areas, noting that Islamabad is keen on utilizing Iranians' experiences.

Iranian ambassador emphasized that the Islamic Republic is ready to provide Pakistan with its know-how and experiences in medicine, pharmaceuticals, surgeries, vaccines production, nanotech, biotechnology and other fields.
