Hassan Nourian, Iran's Consul General in Karachi, the capital of Sindh province in an exclusive interview with IRNA on the sidelines of the 3rd International Consumer Product Fair in Karachi on Saturday said handling of some technical issues in the field of banking and finance has taken more serious form.
He said the barter trade mechanism could largely resolve banking and monetary issues, a challenge faced by traders in both countries. “The swift implementation of the mechanism would strengthen mutual co-operation,” he said.
Nourian added the discussion on the clearinghouse should be finalized to continue trade under barter trade mechanism.
He added that the business community of the other two countries will not face problems such as international currency or electronic export form after the barter trade is started.
Emphasizing the support of the Central Banks of Iran and Pakistan for trade facilitation methods between the two countries, he said businessmen of the two countries believe that instead of a specific schedule for barter trade only between Zahedan and Quetta chambers, this plan should be managed by Iran Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Pakistan covering other chambers.
The Consul General of Iran in Karachi, Pakistan said the barter trade mechanism should be implemented as soon as possible and the relevant institutions should form a clearinghouse and inform the businessmen of the two countries about its mechanism.
Reacting to the approval of the plan to start barter trade with Iran by the Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet of the Government of Pakistan, he said the decision of the Government of Pakistan can help facilitate bilateral trade.
“Tehran welcomes any step towards streamlining bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of economy and trade,” he said.
The Economic Coordination Committee of the Government of Pakistan on Thursday launched a new initiative aimed at promoting bilateral trade cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran and approved the legalization of the barter trade mechanism between the two countries.
The ninth meeting of the Iran-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee was held in November last year with the official visit of Abdul Razzak Dawood, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Trade and Investment.
During the visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Zahedan Chamber of Commerce in the presence of the chairman and vice chairman of the Quetta Chamber regarding barter trade.
