Iran FM's economic achievement from Oman visit

Tehran, IRNA – The day-long visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian to Oman took place on January 10, 2022, with expansion of bilateral economic relations at the center of discussion.

Although Tehran and Muscat have enjoyed proper political ties in recent years, they have not been able to use each other's economic capacities yet.

According to IRNA, the January 10 travel of Amirabdollahian to the Omani capital was a visit with mission of promoting bilateral cooperation.

In Muscat, Iranian foreign minister held talks with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi on various regional questions and cultural, economic, and political issues.

Several experts say that Amirabdollahian's Muscat trip was after fostering economic relations as the two have reviewed issues of tourism, energy, transportation, etc.

As the foreign minister said upon arrival in Muscat on Monday, Iran and Oman enjoy long-lasting and sustainable ties.

Amirabdollahian has hoped that his Oman visit would lead to good happenings as the new Iranian government which took office in August 2021 is after fostering relations with neighbors.

He has stressed that the Iranian government is after achieving its goals through repairing relations with neighboring and regional states.

According to reports, Iran and Oman have experienced cordial ties in the political fields but they have not benefited from their economic capacities yet.

If Iran and Oman want to reach five billion dollars' worth of exchange from the current level, more diplomatic talks and more grounds are needed.

In a related development, chairman of Tehran-Muscat joint chamber of commerce Mohsen Zarrabi has said a few months ago that there is a capacity of touching five-billion-dollar trade exchange regarding the proper conditions and infrastructures for exports.

Analysts believe that cordial and close ties between Tehran and Muscat are due to their closeness to Strait of Hormuz and importance of this strategic point.

As a whole, Muscat's impartial and constructive role in solving many disputes including its mediating role between Iran and US and Iran and Saudi Arabia along with its expansion of economic relations with Tehran can turn the country into a unique and multidimensional example among players in the Persian Gulf region and the Sea of Oman.
