Iran criticizes shrinking world contributions for environmental protection

Glasgow, IRNA – The head of Iranian Department of Environment Ali Slajeqeh here on Tuesday criticized diminishing global contributions to environment preservation in Iran.

He made the remark in a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer and Chairperson, Global Environment Facility Carlos Manuel Rodriguez at the UN Glasgow Climate Change Conference.

Referring to the past Global Environment Facility (GEF) cooperation and contributions to Iran, he said that they helped Iran in pursuing its environmental objectives rapidly while at the 5th round of those contributions was severed.

Highlighting the need for the cross-border environmental effects, the Iranian environment official asked for allocation of facilities and credit to Iran in GEF’s next round of global contributions.

The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference. It is being held at the SEC Centre in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, between 31 October and 12 November 2021, under the presidency of Alok Sharma.
