Modern Islamic civilization not to be realized without Shiite-Sunni cooperation

Zahedan, IRNA – Secretary-General of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (Taqrib) Hamid Shahriari said that the modern Islamic civilization couldn’t be materialized without cooperation between Shiite and Sunni denominations.

Speaking in a meeting with the Vali Faqih Representative and Governor-General of Sistan & Baluchestan Province on Wednesday, Shahriari said that Shiite and Sunni followers enjoyed good cohesion in the province.

He expressed regret that the province was deprived of good investment during the last four decades, underlining that for the next four decades officials should focus on Sistan & Baluchestan Province development.

He also pointed to the poverty in the province, saying that it stemmed partly from a shortage of human sources and officials should make more comprehensive plans to address the issue.

Shahriari vowed the development of the University of Islamic Denominations in Sistan & Baluchestan Province and admission of foreign students in the university to use the opportunity of unity among Shiite and Sunni people in the province in neighboring countries.

The officials also emphasized the necessity of appointing local managers from among Sunni followers in management posts.

Taqrib Forum has an initiative called “proximity tourism” to invite great Sunni scholars from other countries to visit Sunni-dominated areas in Iran and organize tours for Iranian Sunni scholars to visit Sunni scholars in other countries, according to Shahriari.
