Amirabdollahian, who is heading a delegation to Moscow, met with Lavrov on Wednesday to discuss the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the situation in Afghanistan, the Caspian Sea, the situation in the South Caucasus Region, and conditions in the Middle East.
In the meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister said that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation have regular talks at different levels, including at presidential level, despite the Coronavirus pandemic.
He said that Iran’s membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) constituted the new ground for talks, but the JCPOA issue was the main priority.
The JCPOA should be implemented without any additional issue, the Russian top diplomat stressed.
Amirabdollahian said that the contact between Iranian and Russian presidents and his current trip to Russia confirmed the strategic nature of Tehran-Moscow ties and the ongoing talks.
He also urged trying to achieve a serious leap in Iran-Russia ties in the ongoing negotiations.
He described the trip as a good opportunity to discuss international developments, including the situation in the South Caucasus Region, Yemen, and Afghanistan.
