In an exclusive interview with IRNA, the top diplomat, who is in New York to take part in the 76th summit of the UN General Assembly, said on Friday that the talks have been bilateral with different negotiating partners so far, but when the Islamic Republic completes studies on the return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Iranian officials will discuss remaining issues in the negotiating table.
Amirabdollahian has held diplomatic meetings with his counterparts and chairmen of international institutes on the sidelines of the annual summit of the UNGA in order to explain the foreign policies of President Ebrahim Raisi’s administration.
Asked about his talks with European counterparts and international officials, including High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, the Iranian FM noted that he announced a pragmatic government has taken power in Tehran.
“In my meetings with foreign ministers from Britain, Germany and Mr. Josep Borrell as well as some other European representatives involved in the JCPOA, I explicitly said we do not restrict relations with the Europe to three European states of Germany, Britain and France,” Amirabdollahian said.
They should understand that they are the ones who should decide on returning to the JCPOA and their commitments under the deal, he said, adding that the Iranian people ask about the economic results of the long-standing negotiations and accord.
The FM further criticized US President Joe Biden for claiming that his administration wants to revive the agreement but in reality they impose new sanctions on the Iranian nation.
Josep Borrrell accepted to deliver the message to the US and described the reasoning as a correct and rational one, Amirabdollahian added.
Describing the Islamic Republic of Iran as a brand throughout the world, he said that his team did not have enough time to hold long meetings with officials of other countries; so, the US policies to isolate Iran doomed to failure.
Iran’s neighboring states feel that the 13th administration in Tehran is sincere in their mottos and performances; therefore, they are keen on expanding ties with the Iranians, he argued.
