New UN envoy meets with Iran's ambassador in Iraq

Baghdad, Jan 6, IRNA – Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert met on Sunday with Iran's Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi and exchanged views on regional developments.

In the meeting, both sides discussed latest developments in Iraq as well as the UN mission in the country.

Iranian ambassador congratulated the new envoy and wished her success during her tenure.

The UN is now carrying a very grave responsibility on its shoulders in Iraq, he said and called the UN envoy to truly reflect realities in Iraq in her reports to the UN.

The UN envoy, for her part expressed satisfaction over the created opportunity and mind to listen to the views of Iran's ambassador with regards to regional developments and those in Iraq.

She said she is well aware of deep relations between Iran and Iraq and said is very eager to visit Tehran at the earliest opportunity.
