Iran, Turkmenistan to settle gas disputes

Tehran, April 24, IRNA – Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Company Hamid-Reza Araqi says by next month, Iranian and Turkmen experts will investigate Iran-Turkmenistan differences on their dispute and they are hoped to reach agreement on the issue so that the case is not referred to the court.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the fourth seminar of sustainable production of gas, Araqi commented on quality of Turkmenistan's gas and said in case the quality is low, some penalties will be envisaged but Ashkhabad has promised to upgrade quality of its gas and we will in turn lower the penalty.

As for gas exports to Turkey, he said per an agreement, 30 million cubic meters of gas will be exported to Turkey and the revenues will be deposited to the treasury.

This year Iran will start gas exports to Basra and the cost will be received from Iraq, according to the official.
