Kashan named Iran's Book Capital

Tehran, Feb 28, IRNA - The central city of Kashan in Isfahan Province has been designated as fourth Iran's Book Capital for the next Iranian year which will begin on March 21, 2018.

This was announced at a ceremony at Tehran's Vahdat Hall on Tuesday in which Iran's Culture Minister Abbas Salehi was present, IRNA reported.

Kashan was selected from among 10 nominees. Mahabad in West Azarbaijan, Sadra in Fars Province, Dezful in Khuzestan Province and Yazd in Yazd Province were also honored.

UNESCO National Commission in Iran, Iran’s Interior Ministry and Culture Ministry presented a plaque of honor plus a cash award to the head of the city's Islamic Culture and Guidance Department and the mayor.

Former culture minister Ali Jannati in 2016 promised that in the near future the title of World Book Capital would be conferred on an Iranian city.

The southwestern city of Ahvaz, northeastern city of Neyshabur and southwestern city of Bushehr were designated Iran's Book Capital in the last three years.
