Mustafa Prize to become Islamic version of Nobel Prize

Tehran, Nov 28, IRNA – The Mustafa Prize, a science and technology award, granted to top researchers and scientists from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member-states biennially, is going to become an Islamic version of the Nobel Prize in the future.

'Regarding the high potentials possessed by the Islamic award, it is expected that in the near future the Mustafa Prize be introduced as an Islamic version of the Nobel Prize,' Mohammad Reza Rabiei, Head of the communications and information technology and science group of the Mustafa Prize said on Tuesday.

According to Rabiei, the Mustafa Prize has a policy-making committee comprised of representatives from universities and authentic institutions from across the Islamic World.

It is an international move and the process of selecting the prize laureates is not solely conducted by Iran, he said.

'The sensitivity and significance of the selection process has urged us to rely on all capacities of the Islamic World. So, among the referees in the international judging committee you can find a Saudi national who is a scientist in the field of wireless technologies,' he added.
