He told IRNA that registration of a city or village has three phases; first a dossier prepares to be sent to the WCC, second assessors visit the nominee cities and third a voting process takes place to register globally a venue.
Vafaei stressed that after considering the report of assessors who visited Iran, the WCC agreed to register Sirjan as world city of Rug, Marivan as world city of Giveh (Clush), a hand-woven-top shoe, and village of Golporegan as World Village of Pottery.
The director general said 17,000 rug wavers are active in Sirjan.
He added that 50,000 square meters of rug produced annually in is Sirjan worth 500 billion rials and 80 percent of them are exported.
Sirjan is located 180 kilometers west of Kerman city, capital of Kerman province.
