Shutdown of primary schools tomorrow for high risk air pullution

Tehran, Nov 13, IRNA – The Air Pollution Emergency Committee on Sunday declared shutdown of Tehran primary schools and kindergartens and on suburban cities of Damavand, Firuzkuh and Pardis on Monday due to high risk air pollution.

The Director General of the Tehran Province Environment Protection Office Nasser Mehrdadi told the Committee session on Sunday that as per approval of the Committee, only autos licensed to frequent in the emergency areas will be outdoors.

He said the authorized time for movement of cars with the odd-and-even plate numbers will be extended for two more hours.

1- Restricted zone based on car’s plate number (for Odd & Even days)
2- Central restricted zone which is open for public cars (Buses, Taxis, Ambulances, . . etc)
The odd-even car commute scheme implemented by traffic regulations has been a major part of Iran’s efforts to curb air pollution levels in metropolises such as Tehran.

The scheme stipulates that private vehicles may be allowed to drive in the city on alternate days, based on the odd or even last digit of license plates. In Iran, the first weekday, i.e. Saturday, is earmarked for cars with the last even digit.
