Call for expansion of Italy-Iran judicial ties

Tehran, Sept 17, IRNA - Secretary General of Italy Supreme Court Giovanni Mammone in a meeting with a senior Iranian human rights delegation called for expansion of judicial cooperation between the two countries.

Mammone also briefed the Iranian delegation on the Italian Supreme Court's obligations, qualifications and performances.

Attending the meeting, Deputy Secretary General of the High Council for Human Rights Kazem Garib Abadi, also briefed the senior Italian official on Iran's judicial system.

Garib Abadi also expressed hope that the level of mutual cooperation could be expanded in judicial arenas.

Commenting on the commonalities of Iran-Italy judicial systems, the high supreme courts in particular, he called for exchanve of judicial experiences between the two countries.

The Iranian delegation also toured different sections of the Supreme Court of Italy and Rome prison on Saturday.

On Sept 13, head of Iran's High Council for Human Rights Mohammad Javad Larijani arrived in Rome to hold talks with senior Italian officials.

The visit aimed at fostering Iran's human rights and judicial cooperation with other countries.

In Dec. 2014, Iran and Italy called for expanding mutual cooperation in judicial and human rights areas in the conference on the Protection of Human Rights in the Penal-Judicial System of Iran and Italy held in Rome.

During the conference, the officials of the two countries agreed to broaden their mutual cooperation and bilateral ties in judicial and human rights issues.
