The commemoration ceremony for the Islamic Republic of Iran Army Day was held on the threshold of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s official visit to Sri Lanka, amid a warm welcome from the presence of political, economic, and military representatives of Sri Lanka and ambassadors of China, Russia, Qatar, Turkiye, Iraq, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cuba and Bangladesh.
During the ceremony, Delkhosh congratulated Iran's Army Day and highlighted that the Islamic Republic of Iran's Army is unique in bolstering its military capabilities and turning itself into a fully popular force in the country.
Referring to the Israeli terrorist attack on Iran's consulate building in Syria on April 1, 2024, he underlined that Iran’s retaliatory response has been carried out in line with Article 51 of the United Nations.
The Defense Attaché at the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran to Sri Lanka, Colonel Homayoun Aliyari, went on to point out the importance of the Indian Ocean, the geopolitical significance of Sri Lanka, and some of the threats to the region, including the presence of trans-regional military forces, and noted that the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are fully prepared to cooperate with neighboring and regional countries for establishing peace and security.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Defense Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne congratulated Iran's Army Day during the ceremony and added that Iran had always supported Sri Lanka during its 30 years of civil wars, and their cooperation led to the defeat of terrorism in Sri Lanka.
