Iran ready to help in efforts to promote track and field in Asia: Minister

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Sports Minister Kiumars Hashemi has said that his country is ready to open a center in Asia, which would help promote track and field in Iran and across the continent.

The minister made the remark on Sunday during talks with President of the Asian Athletics Association Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

Hashemi thanked the Asian Athletics Association for choosing Iran to host the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, and expressed his country’s readiness to open a center with the aim of promoting track and field sports in Iran and Asia.

Al Hamad, for his part, said that Iran is an important and influential country both in the region and the world, and has an outstanding position in all sports including track and field.

He said that the Asian Athletics Association plans to develop track and field in Iran, adding that the association is of the belief that Iran has good potential to make that goal materialize.  

The 2024 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships are taking place in Tehran on February 17-19.
