Iran: ICJ’s ruling bears testimony to bitter fact in Gaza

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has said that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling bears testimony to the bitter fact that what is going on in Gaza is an example of international crimes, for example, genocide.

"The provisional order by the International Court of Justice (#ICJ) and the Zionist regime’s hostile reaction showed that this regime is founded on violence and discrimination and does not respect international norms and legal regulations," Kanaani wrote on his X account on Saturday.

"On the other hand, the U.S. government's response to the ICJ’s injunction indicates that Washington is using international judicial mechanisms as an instrumental use," he added.

"The ICJ’s ruling bears testimony to the bitter fact that what is going on in #Gaza is an example of international crimes, namely #genocide, which are committed and continue with the United States’ unending support for the Zionist regime," he noted.

"Now, the world is facing a question: Do international organizations and institutes, preserving international peace and security, need any more permission to force the #ZionistRegime to stop its genocide?" Kanaani asked.

On Friday, the ICJ delivered its ruling on the emergency measures requested by South Africa in its genocide case against the Zionist regime over its war on the Gaza Strip.

The president of this international court emphasized that it cannot accept the Israeli regime's request to dismiss South Africa's complaint, it added.

"The court said, among others, that Israel must take steps to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza but stopped short of ordering a ceasefire," it noted.

"The judges have not ruled on the merits of the genocide allegations, which may take years to decide."
