In an exclusive interview with IRNA published on Sunday, Second Brigadier General Hamzeh Ghalandari said the international community discovered a new dimension of defense technology after it saw Iranian-made weapons.
He added that the world was also surprised to see that “a country that was completely in trouble in all areas and was banned from accessing any technology has now reached a point where it moves on the edge of technology and its weapons are, as media outlets say, a ‘game changer.’”
Back on October 18, 2020, a 13-year UN arms embargo on Iran was lifted in spite of a vicious US campaign to keep it in place, allowing Iran to buy and sell conventional weapons to strengthen the country’s security.
Referring to the lifting of the “cruel” arms embargo, Ghalandari told IRNA that the move was immediately followed by sales of Iranian weapons to different countries.
Afterward, several countries began to buy Iranian weapons to renovate and rebuild their defense equipment, he said.
‘Iran not just after financial gains’
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian general highlighted the importance of the financial benefits of exporting weapons for Iran.
However, he hastened to clarify that the Islamic Republic does not focus on financial gains when it comes to selling weapons to other countries.
“Although the economic benefits of arms exports cannot be ignored, based on its religious and revolutionary ideals, the Islamic Republic of Iran does not merely pursue commercial and trade [gains] as other global arms exporters tend to do,” he added.
