Vahid Jalalzadeh told IRNA on Friday that the Iranian security and intelligence apparatus will investigate the fatal raid, which left an Azeri diplomat killed.
The member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran expressed condolences to the government and nation of Azerbaijan on the demise of a staff member of the embassy, adding that the Azeri diplomats are our guests in Iran and we are tasked with providing them with security in accordance with international treaties, so the incident is unfortunate.
Jalalzadeh, who represents Urmia in the parliament, said that the security and law enforcement forces were sent to the embassy in the first minutes to investigate the incident.
I saw the Azerbaijan president’s stance on the incident, he said, noting that the president’s stand was very wise and that we expect the Azerbaijan government to adopt stances based on mutual ties and self-restraint.
According to the legislator, the stances of both countries should be full of responsibility to avoid any harm to the bilateral relationship and hinder enemies’ misuse of the incident.
The initial investigation shows that the attacker raided the embassy due to his personal motivation; however, it would be better to wait for the finalization of the probe into the crime, he said.
