A delegation from Iran had already traveled to Vienna and negotiated with the IAEA officials, and the two will continue talks during the visit of the IAEA delegation to Tehran, Nasser Kanaani told reporters at his weekly press briefing in the Iranian capital.
Iran will continue its constructive relations with the IAEA to solve issues related to the Safeguards Agreements, Kanaani noted.
“Some countries are trying to damage Iran-IAEA cooperation.”
Turning to the statement of the European Union about Iran, the spokesman said the three European countries have unfortunately taken “unconstructive” and “hasty behavior,” while technical talks with the IAEA still continue.
Iran advises the European sides to take a step towards diplomacy, Kanaani stressed.
About the European countries’ stance, the spokesman said a few states have taken political behavior; meanwhile, the Islamic Republic will not let them meddle, Kanaani underlined.
He went on to advise the European states to avoid using the issue of human rights as a tool.
Sanctions will not be effective and Iran will give necessary and proper response to the sanctions, he added.
Touching upon the Vienna talks, the spokesman said Iran has made “constructive initiatives” to keep proceeding with the process of negotiations.
Elsewhere, he talked about the unrest in Iran, saying that legal measures have been taken to deal with foreign nationals who had hands in the recent turmoil.
He added that the Foreign Ministry has been following up on the cases and the Iranian embassies have transferred documents on the issue to the related countries.
About the Sunday afternoon drone operation against terrorist bases in northern Iraq, the spokesman said he is unaware of the details, but he stresses that the Islamic Republic will not keep silent on any threat to its security and its borders.
On the war in Ukraine, Kanaani said Iran has not dispatched any weapon or equipment to Russia to be used in the Ukraine war.
Iran’s defense cooperation is in the legal process, he stressed.
About the issue of Ukraine, Iran is committed to impartiality, he said adding that Tehran has been making efforts to direct Russia and Ukraine to a good route as the country has cordial ties with both.
“Iran is not a member of any military coalition,” but it will respond whenever it feels that its security is in danger, he said.
Asked about remarks made by French President Emmanuel Macron about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the spokesman said Iran does not relate the process of talks to any developments.
Also about Iran-Lebanon ties, Kanaani said their cooperation is friendly, and Tehran does not recognize unilateral sanctions against Beirut.
Elsewhere, he said Iran welcomes diplomatic talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Referring to the recent remarks made by the Azeri president, the spokesman said the Azeri ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Ministry to be informed of Iran’s official stance.
Although Iran’s policy is based on expansion of ties with neighbors, no one has the right to misuse such a policy, he noted.
About Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s threat against Iran, the spokesman said Tehran does not see it necessary to react to the issue as a “threat” belongs to the nature of the Zionist regime of Israel, adding that this regime is occupier and assassinator.
To reply to a question about Palestine, Kanaani said the Islamic Republic of Iran is the number-one supporter of the Palestinian nation.
Referring to the imprisonment of an Iranian diplomat – Assadollah Assadi – in Belgium, the spokesman said the Foreign Ministry is following up on the case with priority as the country believes that his arrest violates international laws.
Commenting on the remarks made by the German officials, Kanaani said Germany should take a look at its human rights record in the past.
Germany was one of those states that equipped Iraq against Iran, so it is not in a position to criticize Iran, he underlined.
