In the letter, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri has called on his counterpart to follow up on the unlawful measures and observe the principles of fair trial in the appeal stage of Hamid Nouri.
Hamid Nouri has been imprisoned in Sweden since October 2019.
He spent some of his incarceration terms in solitary confinement and was deprived of the right to choose a lawyer, contact or visit his family members, meet the so-called witnesses, and even visit a physician for health issues.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Montazeri noted that one of the most significant duties of prosecutors, in addition to protecting public rights and safeguarding security in a society, is to establish justice and provide the necessary grounds for the rights of the defendants in self-defense.
Individuals should not be prosecuted without sufficient evidence and documents, he pointed out.
Even if there is a reason for suspicion of committing a crime, the grounds for fair and unrestricted defense should be provided so that a defendant can prove that s/he is innocent, he said.
