Raisi admin. performance acceptable: Ex-ambassador

Tehran, IRNA – The one-year efforts made by the diplomatic apparatus of the administration of President Raisi have been acceptable, especially when it comes to the bilateral relationships with neighboring states, the membership in regional and international unions as well as the negotiations for the lifting of anti-Iran sanctions, a former Iranian ambassador said.

Mohsen Pakaeen told IRNA on Saturday that the 13th administration in Tehran has been active in three fields in the last year, noting that the administration prioritized the expansion of relations with other countries, especially neighbors.

Iran has focused not only on bolstering ties with its 15 immediate neighbors but also with the regional states, he said, adding that the development of a strategic relationship with Russia and Turkey under the incumbent administration is one of the most significant achievements of the diplomatic apparatus of the Islamic Republic.

On the Look to the East policy, the diplomat mentioned that the phenomenon is linked to both geographical and political east, arguing that East Asia and Latin America, and Africa are considered as part of the policy.

Of course, the Raisi administration did not put aside paying attention to the West, although the Western powers are a source of the existing distances.

The Raisi administration and its diplomatic apparatus have been able to sign agreements, he said, noting that they reached a consensus with Russia as well as Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan to increase cooperation.

As to paying heed to neighboring Arab states, the administration pursued improvement of ties with Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait, he said, noting that they have carried out negotiations with Saudi Arabia to restore diplomatic relations.

The enhancement of ties with Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Cuba, Brazil, South Africa, Kenya, Tunisia, etc. indicates that the Islamic Republic does not focus on only one region, he reasoned.

Referring to the administration’s efforts to cooperate with regional and international alliances and organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the former envoy said that the diplomatic apparatus of the administration followed up collaborations with several entities as part of its foreign policy.

He further noted that the issue of returning to the negotiations for the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the removal of anti-Iran sanctions has been on the agenda of the administration along with the policy of neutralizing the cruel sanctions in order to guarantee the rights of the Iranian nation.

The administration also collaborated with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) along with following up on the Vienna talks, he added.

The Islamic Republic would be ready to resume its commitments under the JCPOA if the US accepts to keep its side of the bargain and lifts all anti-Iran sanctions, Pakaeen said.

Dismissing Iranophobic attempts by the enemies, he argued that the foes in particular the West pursue Islamophobia and Iranophobia, adding that certain Latin American countries follow suit.
