The administration of President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi is going to develop fiber optic technology to cover millions of households and businesses, an Iranian minister said.
Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology Issa Zarepour told IRNA on Saturday that the development of fiber optic technology in Iran is being pursued by the administration seriously.
-- POGC completes pipe laying operations of SP Phase 11 platform
The subsea pipe laying operation of the gas transmission line from the first platform of South Pars Phase 11 in the Persian Gulf to the onshore refinery has been completed, Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC) which is in charge of developing the field announced.
The pipe laying operations of the gas transmission line from Platform 11B which started on July 28 was completed on Friday, Shana reported on Saturday. The operations included installing a 32-inch subsea pipeline for transmitting sour gas and a 4.5-inch mono-ethylene glycol injection pipeline both with an approximate length of 15 kilometers..
-- Maragheh home to nine-million-year vertebrate fossils
Nine million years ago, when the eruption of the Sahand Volcano caused the melting of the great glaciers of northwestern Iran, a great flood hit countless lakes, dense forests and groves.
Consequently, numerous groups of vertebrates migrated to Africa, but a large number of elephants, giraffes, monkeys, wild horses, rhinoceroses and some other animals got stuck in the mud of the flood and as a result of subsequent eruptions, they were buried under layers of ash.
In 1840, a Russian paleontologist carried out excavations in Maragheh, a city in East Azarbaijan Province, and discovered numerous fossils belonging to the ancestors of African vertebrates.

-- Iraq Says Holding Talks With Iran on Increasing Gas Imports
Spokesman for Iraqi Ministry of Electricity Ahmad Mousa al-Abadi on Saturday said that talks are ongoing between Iranian and Iraqi officials in order to import gas from Iran.
Gas imports from Iran stand at 45 million cubic meters but Iraq’s need is much more than the said amount, he added.
The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced that it is negotiating with the Iranian side to increase the import of gas to Iraq needed for the operation of the country’s power stations.
-- Iran Honors Late Celebrated Poet Ebtehaj
A memorial service has been held for renowned contemporary Iranian poet Amir Hushang Ebtehaj at the Iranian House of Artists in the capital, Tehran, bringing together a host of his fans a few days into his death. Also known under the nom de plume of Sayeh, shadow, Ebtehaj was a member of several literary circles and contributed to various literary magazines.
He published his first collection of poetry while he was still a high school student in the 1940s. He also wrote a collection of lyrical poems known as Gazal in the classical style.

The Iranian women table tennis team beat Turkey in the final match of the 2021 Konya Islamic Countries Solidarity Games . Defeating Saudi Arabia, Iran’s Table Tennis Team of men also snatched their second gold medal and stood first at the competitions.
Noshad and Nima Alemian each defeated their Saudi rivals in the individual game category 3-1 and 3-0, respectively. In the double match, the Nima Alemian-Afshin Nouruzi team defeated the Saudi team 3-0.

-- Using cryptocurrencies, Iran takes new step to nullify U.S. sanctions
last week, Iran announced placing its first official import order using cryptocurrencies, a move that would help the Islamic Republic get around U.S. sanctions easily. According to Head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Alireza Peyman-Pak, the order worth $10 million, has been placed for the imports of automobiles.
This could be considered a first step towards allowing the country to trade through digital assets that bypass the dollar-dominated global financial system and to trade with other countries similarly limited by U.S. sanctions, such as Russia.

Golestan province has recently approved detailed plans aimed to help safeguard the historical core of Astarabad, which lies at the southeastern corner of the Caspian Sea, northern Iran.
Based on this plan, the historical core of Astarabad (Gorgan) will be maintained as a lively, dynamic area, relying on its heritage values in connection with the surrounding environment, CHTN quoted Rahman Farmani, Golestan province’s tourism chief, as saying on Saturday.
