Two major earthquakes hit southern Iranian port city

Qeshm, IRNA – Two back-to-back earthquakes hit an area near the Persian Gulf port city of Khamir, southern Iran, on Saturday night.

According to the Tehran University Seismological Center, the first earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred at 20: 37 local time, and at the depth of 10 km.

The second tremor measuring 5.8 magnitude took place two minutes later and at the depth of 9 km.     

The quakes jolted an area near Khamir Port located between Qeshm Island and the city of Bandar Abbas.

There have been no reports of damage and casualties.
