Amir Abdollahian made the remarks in the first bilateral meeting with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu in Ankara.
Elaborating on the Iranian government’s foreign policy approach with regard to developing relations with neighbors, he underlined reinforcing ties between the two nations and protecting common interests.
He stressed Iran’s determination to activate bilateral ties mechanisms, including the high cooperation council, the joint economic commission, the consular, customs, border, security, and media committees.
He also underlined the need to facilitate exchanges to promote trade and economic cooperation and exchanges, especially in the fields of transport, energy, tourism, agricultural products, industry, scientific and technological research, and investment, and to reinforce cooperation in regional organizations.
He emphasized addressing the issue of environment, water resources, and sand and dust, saying that the Turkish government representative’s presence in the upcoming meeting in Tehran aiming to tale joint plans to confront the issue is of great importance.
Stressing the two countries’ vigilance against the illegitimate Zionist regime’s conspiracies, Amirabdollahian emphasized strengthening interactions between all Iranian and Turkish political and security bodies.
He also briefed Çavuşoğlu about the latest developments regarding negotiations on lifting sanctions.
Meanwhile, Çavuşoğlu hailed the impact of holding the 29th meeting of the joint economic commission in the near future on developing cooperation.
The two sides also discussed developments in Syria within the framework of the Astana mechanism, Caucasus issues and closer coordination in the 3+3 initiative, defending the Palestinian cause and preserving the Islamic identity of the Holy Quds, ending the war in Ukraine, US’ illegal sanctions against Iran, and Turkey's opposition against sanctions.
