-- MP: Medicine price rise after subsidy elimination logical
A member of the Iranian Parliament dismissed as “illogical” to say that medicine prices should not rise following the elimination of the government subsidy allocated in the form of cheap foreign currency resources to importers.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Iran Daily, Yahya Ebrahimi, who is also a member of the Parliament’s Health and Treatment Committee and a cardiologist, added that when in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, the issue of phasing out the government subsidy on medicine imports was being discussed in the legislative body, it was suggested that the process should be undertaken gradually and, firstly, with regard to unessential drugs.
-- Export duties increase on high water-intensive agriproducts
The uncontrolled increase in the production and export of watermelons and some other products which require a lot of water for production has caused the Ministry of Agriculture to increase export duties of the products.
Reza Nourani, the president of the National Union of Agricultural Products, said in an interview with the Persian newspaper, Iran, “Unless the approved cultivation model is implemented properly, uncontrolled cultivation of water-intensive agriproducts will continue”.
-- El Goli Garden en route to global registration
A dossier was prepared for the global registration of El Goli Garden located in Tabirz, the capital city of East Azarbaijan Province, said head of the provinces’ Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Iran Daily, Ramin Asbaqi added that efforts are underway to register the garden on UNESCO’s World Heritage List by mid-March 2023. The complex was inscribed on Iran’s National Heritage List in 2009.
He said that the dossier will be followed either independently or as an accession in the inclusive dossier of Persian gardens.
Nine Persian gardens including Pasargadae Garden of Marvdasht and Eram Garden of Shiraz in the southwestern province of Fars, Chehel Sotoun Garden of Isfahan and Fin Garden of Kashan in the central province of Isfahan, Abbasabad Garden of Behshahr in the northern province of Mazandaran, Shazdeh Garden of Kerman in the southeastern province of Kerman, Dolatabad Garden of Yazd and Pahlevanpour Garden of Mehriz in the central province of Yazd were registered on UNESCO’s list.

-- Nigeria, Iran Discuss Expansion of Ties
Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian said on Saturday Iran is determined to bolster relations with African states, especially Nigeria.
Amir-Abdollahian told Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zubairu Dada here that the current volume of cooperation between Iran and Nigeria is not on par with the capacities of the two states is far from the desirable level.
He touched on the current administration’s policy to engage with African countries, saying the Islamic Republic seen no restrictions on development of relations with Nigeria.
-- Iran Overpower Uzbekistan at Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship
Iran beat Uzbekistan 3-0 at the 14th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. Earlier, Iran had defeated Australia in the opening match.
Also, the Iranian team lost to Thailand 3-1 and was beaten by South Korea 3-0.
The event kicked off on June 6 and will wrap up on June 13. The top four teams will qualify for the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U19 World Championship as the AVC representatives.

-- Croatian writer Yasmin Dar’s novel on Iran “On the Roads of Persia” introduced in Zagreb
“On the Roads of Persia” (“Putevima Perzije”), a novel by Croatian writer Yasmin Dar on Iran, was introduced on Friday in Zagreb.
Dar, who is also known as Yasmina Mehic, Iranian Ambassador Parviz Esmaeili and dozens of Croatian cultural figures attend a meeting held at the library of the Zagreb municipality to present the novel, the Embassy of Iran announced.

Creating handicrafts is a significant way of spreading culture, the new deputy tourism minister for handicrafts Maryam Jalali Dehkordi has said. “When handicrafts are infused with identity and art, they are no longer featureless productions but they are cultural ambassadors,” Jalali Dehkordi said on Friday.
She made the remarks in a meeting held at Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural-Historical Complex on the occasion of World Handicrafts Day, ISNA reported.
