Ghaebi added that the progress is the result of the constructive cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.
Ghaebi made the comments at a meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors in the Austrian capital on Wednesday, which discussed, among other things, the implementation of the NPT Safeguards Agreement in Iran.
Ghaebi further elaborated on the Islamic Republic’s stance as he addressed the meeting attended by representatives of the IAEA member states.
He said Iran, as a signatory to the International Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT), has been and will remain committed to fulfilling its obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement (CSA).
The Iranian diplomat expressed satisfaction that the cooperation between his country and the IAEA as well as the verification regarding location two enabled the agency to assess that it was no longer a remaining safeguards issue.
He also referred to the joint statement by Iran and the IAEA on March 5, and said, the statement shows Tehran’s respect for the UN nuclear body and its determination for cooperating with the agency.
Ghaebi said, the IAEA should also maintain impartiality and act professionally and independently without being politicized, adding that, Iran and the agency must prepare for a new chapter of cooperation once the ongoing negotiations on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal successfully end.
The Iranian envoy stressed the need to end the standoff over the remaining safeguards issues as soon as possible, and added that his country expects the Board of Governors to take appropriate measures to support ending those issues following the recent report by the IAEA director general. 1424
