Speaking in an interview with IRNA political correspondent, Mostafa Khoshcheshm said on the talks between Iran and the 4+1 in Vienna that the talks were based on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and thus its text couldn't undergo any changes.
Iran should use the US withdrawal from the JCPOA as leverage to block the US and Europeans' escape route, he said, adding that the US withdrawal struck many blows to Iran's economy and slowed down its nuclear progress.
Everyone knows today that the JCPOA is not a goal for the US, Khoshcheshm said. The goal is to reach other deals on regional, missile and human rights issues as well as the security of the Israeli regime, according to Khoshcheshm.
If Iran fails to secure practical and legal assurances to increase the cost of withdrawal for the US, it will be faced with greater damages than what it experience from the JCPOA failure, making Iranian economy a hostage for the US, he noted.
The expert also said that obtaining assurances is a demand also made by foreign companies and entities, saying that they would avoid making a presence in Iran if the US didn't give assurances it wouldn't withdraw from the deal again.
On the quality of the current negotiations in Vienna, he said that the initiative raised by Iran's top negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani and his team has caused Europeans got stuck with Iran's pragmatism and they have to accept to discuss Iran's drafts.
