Iran would soon conclude reviewing Vienna talks: Spox

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Tehran has completed the first process of reviewing Vienna talks to revive the JCPOA and would conclude the second process soon.

In an interview with France24, Khatibzadeh said that Iran began two processes of reviewing the previous rounds of talks in Vienna after the new administration took office in early august.

The first process has been completed and Tehran has decided to resume talks based on that, he noted, but the second process to review the details of all rounds of talks and assessing them was ongoing and would complete soon.

The diplomat didn’t provide an exact date for the conclusion of this process, but underlined that it would be much sooner than the time US President Joe Biden’s administration needed to join Vienna talks.

Khatibzadeh highlighted the 800 new unilateral and illegal sanctions imposed on Iran by the former US President Donald Trump’s administration as the most important issue in Iran’s view which should be removed.

He criticized that Biden administration, contrary to his campaign promises, didn’t change Iran policy adopted during Trump's presidency.

On the statements made by the Israeli regime’s Prime Minister on Iran’s nuclear program, the spokesman said that the regime which sits on hundreds of nuclear warheads and has refused to join NPT or any other monitoring regime was not in a position to comment on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

The diplomat also said that it was soon to talk about recognizing the Taliban government, but the important issue is that the future of Afghanistan should be based on an all-inclusive government derived from the people’s wishes.
