Rouhani: US sanctions caused problems for S. Korea-Iran relations

Tehran, IRNA - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday said that the US cruel sanctions have caused problems for the relations of Iran and South Korea.

He made the remarks during a meeting in which he received the credential of the newly-appointed ambassador of South Korea to Iran Yun Kang-Hyeon, calling for the resolving the problems of both sides’ relations.

Despite promises made by South Korea, banking and financial problems persist between the two states, Rouhani pointed out.

In the field of purchasing medical equipment and even vaccines, Iran still encounter difficulty using its funds in Seoul's banks, he added.

He pointed out that Iran has a right to make use of its funds in South Korean banks.

Meanwhile, Rouhani also met Nigerian Ambassador to Tehran Yakubu Santuraki Suleiman when he submitted his credentials to the Iranian President.

During his meeting with Suleiman, Rouhani expressed hope that the long-standing ties between the two states will be further boosted by making use of the existing capacities.

Both sides enjoy good capacities in the fields of trade, agriculture, science, technology, and particularly energy, he said, calling for utilizing the potentials for the benefit of the two nations.

Touching upon the good cooperation between the two countries in international organizations, he stated that there has always been mutual cooperation in the international arena, and this can further bolster bilateral relations.
