Iran, Russia, Turkey to cooperate to eradicate terrorism in Syria

Tehran, IRNA – At the end of the 16th round of talks on Syria, known as the Astana Process, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, and Turkey announced in a joint statement that they will continue their cooperation until the complete eradication of the ISIS and other terrorist groups in Syria.

The 16th round of talks on Syria, known as the Astana Process, with the participation of the Syrian government and the Syrian armed opposition groups began in Nur-Sultan on July 7. Delegations from Iran, Russia, and Turkey also participated in the Astana Process as guarantor states. High representatives of the United Nations (UN), Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq were present as observers.

The 16th round of Astana talks—aimed at stabilizing the war and political crisis in Syria—were held in Kazakhstan's capital, Nur-Sultan.

The talks started in 2017, by Russia, Turkey and Iran, to provide an international forum for negotiation and consensus-building for the opposing factions in Syria .

In a joint statement issued on Thursday, the three countries called for full implementation of the agreements and maintaining stability in Idlib, IRNA reported.

According to the statement, Iran, Russia, and Turkey are determined to oppose separatist plans east of the Syrian Euphrates.

The joint statement added that Russia, Iran and Turkey do not accept the illegal seizure of oil and the transfer of proceeds from the sale of oil belonging to Syria.
