Polling for Iran’s 13th Presidential elections kicks off in Pakistan

Islamabad, June 18, IRNA -- Polling for the 13th Presidential elections in the Islamic Republic of Iran kicked off in four cities of Pakistan including capital Islamabad on Friday.

Overall five polling stations have been set up in Islamabad, Quetta, Lahore, Karachi.

Iranian nationals above 18 years of age in Pakistan are eligible to cast their votes in the presidential elections to play their own role in the fate and future of their country.

Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Ali Hosseini cast his vote in the beginning of the polling at Iranian embassy in Islamabad.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh has said that Iranians living in 133 countries would be able to cast vote in the presidential election except for Canada, Yemen, and Singapore.

He added that Iranians to vote in 234 polling stations across the world except for Canada, where the government has denied them the chance; Yemen, due to the war; and Singapore, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to official statistics, out of over 59 million Iranians who are eligible to vote in the 2021 presidential election, over 1.3 million Iranians will be voting for the first time.

Accordingly, 59,310, 307 Iranians can cast votes in the forthcoming presidential election with over 1.3 million of them being first-voters, and except for Tehran, voting would be electronic in 24 provincial capitals, where no paper ballots or usual ballot boxes would be used.

Iran’s 13th presidential election is being held simultaneously with the sixth round of municipal council elections for the cities and villages, the first mid-term for 11th round of parliamentary by-election, and the second mid-term for the fifth round of Assembly of Experts' election.
