Chabahar int’l event explores global investment opportunities

Chabahar, Feb 26, IRNA - International Conference on Chabahar Development coinciding with 'Chabahar Day' started here on Tuesday in southeast of the country with participation of a number of domestic officials and guests from 17 countries.

Minister of Roads and Urban Development, secretary of the Supreme Council of Free Trade Zones, the representative of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Sistan and Baluchestan and Friday Prayer Leader of provincial capital of Zahedan as well as the Friday Prayer Leader of the Makki Mosque of Sunnis together with guests from 17 world countries took part in the opening of the conference.

The conference, titled 'Investment Opportunities Summit', also hosts a number of domestic investors who have gathered at the venue of the International Exhibition of Chabahar Free Trade Zone.

The conference will explore investment opportunities in the port and introduce its capabilities to investors.
A number of economic projects and initiatives were launched in the port yesterday.

According to the Director General of Ports and Maritime Affairs Organization of Sistan and Baluchestan Behrooz Aqaei, the strategic equipment needed for loading and unloading goods, a desalinization project in Shahid Beheshti port of Chabahar, a clinic, eight suckers with the total capacity of 600 tons a number of other port facilities are among the projects inagurated.

He noted that simultaneously the container ship uploading operation, and the unloading and loading of the first consignment of legumes from Afghanistan to India began at the Chabahar port at the presence of the Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami.

The conference could lead to the rapid development of the port, increase in the amount of unloading and loading activities and growing investment in Chabahar, he said.

Aqaiee had said on Monday that guests from India, Qatar, Afghanistan, Georgia, Kazakhstan Finland, Iraq, Algeria, Turkey, Russia, Pakistan, Oman, Germany, the Netherlands and Australia are attending the event.

Chabahar Day is a “great opportunity for businessmen, traders, freight companies, national and international Liners from Iran, India, and Afghanistan as well as other countries to reach the main goals of Chabahar Agreement, officials said.

The guests are planned to visit the economic and transit capacities of Chabahar Port as well as facilities and infrastructure of Shahid Beheshti Port as part of Chabahar.
