Iran describes bans on its airline as unacceptable

Tehran, Jan 22, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman on Tuesday described Germany's bans on Mahan Air from its airports as 'unjustifiable.'

German bans on Iranian airline, Mahan Air is based on wrong information provided by those who are not happy with good relations between Tehran and Berlin, Bahram Qasemi said.

He described Germany's decision as 'unjustifiable, hasty and on the contrary with the spirit of age-old bilateral relations.'

Qasemi referred to Mahan Air's good record and expressed the hope that Germany would review its decision on banning the Iranian airline from operating in its airports.

Germany has banned Iranian airline, Mahan Air from operating in the country's airports.

According to the media reports, German has taken the decision under the US' heavy pressure.

Officials at the Federal Aviation Office (LBA) of Germany sent Tehran-based Mahan Air a notification 'ordering the immediate suspension of its authorization to operate passenger flights from and to Germany' from Monday, a German transport ministry spokeswoman said.

Mahan, Iran's second-largest carrier after Iran Air, flies four services a week between Tehran and the German cities of Düsseldorf and Munich.

Mahan Air, established in 1992 as Iran's first private airline, has the country's largest fleet of aircraft and has flights to a number of European countries, including France, Italy, Spain, and Greece.
