UN Security Council to hold meeting at Israeli regime's request after Iran's attack

New York, IRNA – The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is to meet on Sunday local time at the request of the Zoinist regime after Iran attacks the regime.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced firing dozens of drones and missiles toward the positions of the Zionist regime in the occupied Palestinians territories late on Saturday.

The firing took place in response to the Israeli attack against Iran’s consulate in Damascus, Syria, a few days ago.

Vanessa Frazier, the Maltese President of the Security Council for April, told reporters on Saturday that the Council will meet on 04:00 pm on Sunday local time after Israel’s request.

Israel made such a request while it has criticized all departments of the UN during the past six months since the onset of war in Gaza in October, 2023. But now, the regime refers to the UNSC to meet after Iran’s attack.

Also, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan has sent a letter to Frazier calling on her to hold an emergency meeting about Iran’s attack.

The ambassador has urged the UN to clearly condemn Islamic Republic’s response to the Israeli aggression.

In a related development, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Amir-Saeid Iravani has said, “Should the Israeli regime commit any military aggression again, Iran's response will assuredly and decisively be stronger, and more resolute.”

Iravani made the remarks in his letters sent to the UN chief Antonio Guterres and Frazier on Saturday.

“This action was in the exercise of Iran's inherent right to self-defense as outlined in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, and in response to the Israeli recurring military aggressions, particularly its armed attack on 1st April 2024 against Iranian diplomatic premises, in the defiance of Article 2 (4) of the Charter of the United Nations,” according to the Iranian ambassador.

He added, “Regrettably, the United Nations Security Council has failed in its duty to maintain international peace and security, allowing the Israeli regime to transgress red lines and violate the fundamental principles of international law. Such violations have exacerbated tensions in the region and threatened regional and international peace and security.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to exercise its inherent right of self-defense when required.”
